Tennis star Rafael Nadal beats Rainer Schuettler in India
World number two Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal started the New Year in grand style with a straight-sets win against German player Rainer Schuettler at the Chennai Open in India.
Rafael Nadal had some trying times in the early stages but he was soon on his way to a 6-4 6-2 victory.
Rafael Nadal will next face Karan Rastogi of India, who defeated Brazilian Thiago Alves.
David Nalbandian is the second seed and the Argentinean star plays against Kristian Pless later on Tuesday.
Elsewhere in other first-round matches, fifth seed and former champion Carlos Moya defeated Alexander Waske 7-6 (7-3) 6-3, and sixth seed Fabrice Santoro went through after David Skoch quit trailing 3-0.
"This being the first outing of a new season, I wasn't 100%," Rafael Nadal said and he added:
"I need some more matches to strike top form, but I'm happy to get past Rainer who I know can be a very dangerous opponent."
