Tennis star Nikolay Davydenko gives Russia the lead
Tennis star Nikolay Davydenko put Russia in an early 1-0 lead over Argentina in the Davis Cup final after defeating Juan Ignacio Chela earlier.
Nikolay Davydenko had dominated the first two sets, breaking Ignacio Chela twice in the opener and twice more in the second.
However, Ignacio Chela took the third but Nikolay Davydenko soon took control again in the fourth to win in just over three hours.
Russia is now looking to former world number one Marat Safin when he faces David Nalbandian in the second of the opening day's singles matches.
Mikahil Youzhny and Dmitry Tursunov will meet David Nalbandian and Agustin Calleri in Saturday's doubles.
The tie is being held on the fast carpet surface at the Olympic Sports Complex in Moscow and Russia are playing in the Davis Cup final for the first time since defeating France to win the 2002 title.
