Tennis star Maria Sharapova wins Qatar Open
Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova battled her way back to defeat compatriot player Vera Zvonareva and win the Qatar Open, which also means she has extended her 2008 unbeaten run to 14 victorious games.
Maria Sharapova beat Vera Zvonareva with a 6-1 2-6 6-0 score.
Twenty-year-old Maria Sharapova played well for six straight games and claimed the first set but then went on to lose the second with a poor performance by comparison.
However, Maria Sharapova got an early break in the decider and in the final part of the game she regained her form and won the match.
Maria Sharapova said: "I had so many opportunities in the beginning of the second set but I didn't take them, and she's the type of opponent that's going to play her best tennis when she's playing from behind and has nothing to lose."
This win marks the 18th career title for Maria Sharapova and is the second of the year after her victory at Melbourne Park in January.
