Tennis star Elena Dementieva wins in Warsaw

elena Russian tennis star Elena Dementieva had a real battle against awful weather conditions to beat American player Meilen Tu at the J&S Cup in Warsaw.

Elena Dementieva, 25, won 6-7 (7-5) 6-0 7-5, although she was suffering from the affects of the severe cold and snow flurries. Besides this, Elena Dementieva was playing after making a recovery from an injury that had kept her away from sport.

Elena Dementieva said:"It was very difficult conditions," and she added, "It was freezing out there and I've never played with snow in my life.

"It was a very tough match for me, especially after such a long break."

Elena Dementieva was making a comeback after she had been injured while training hard and while away from tennis she had even considered retirement.

"I couldn't really do anything and it was time for me to think what I want to do in my life and did I want to come back or do something else."

Elena Dementieva made a brave and very successful comeback to tennis and could next face unseeded Venus Williams.
