Swiss tennis star Roger Federer beats Gael Monfils
Swiss tennis star Roger Federer has beaten Frenchman Gael Monfils with an impressive victory in the French Open quarter-finals held in Paris.
27-year-old Federer beat Monfils with a 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 6-4 score, and in so doing, he goes through to his 20th Grand Slam semi-final in the sport.
Federer, who is aiming to equal Pete Sampras's record of 14 Grand Slam titles, actually admitted to being nervous before the game but it certainly didn't show.
22-year-old Monfils, as a Frenchman playing in France, had been a favourite with many of the home crowd but he didn't have what it takes to beat Federer, who claimed victory for the game in two hours 10 minutes.
Federer now goes forward to play against fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro following the Argentinean player's defeat of Tommy Robredo from Spain with a 6-3 6-4 6-2 score.
