Swiss tennis star Martina Hingis expected to retire

hingis It is being speculated that Swiss tennis star Martina Hingis will retire from the sport for a second time on Thursday.

Martina Hingis, who is currently aged 27, had been forced to retire in 2003 at the relatively early age of 22 due to injuries to her ankle ligaments.

Then on November 29, 2005, after several operations, Martina Hingis announced that she would make her comeback to the WTA tour, starting with a low-key tournament in Gold Coast, Australia in January 2006.

Martina Hingis proved her doubters wrong by winning three titles and ended 2006 ranked seventh in the world.

Martina Hingis is currently ranked 19th, however, she was forced to make an early end to her season last month because of hip problems.

Although Martina Hingis had vowed to carry on it seems likely, according to reports, that she will be unable to do so.
