Swedish golf star Annika Sorenstam beats Paula Creamer

annika.new.JPG Swedish woman golf star Annika Sorenstam has won the 71st title of her career by defeating US golfer Paula Creamer in a play-off for the LPGA Stanford International.

37-year-old Sorenstam beat Creamer with a par at the first extra hole.

Paula Creamer fired a final-round 69, but her rival Annika Sorenstam, who was already in the lead from the start of the game, shot 70.

A proud Sorenstam said afterwards: "I'm very relieved and happy and excited at the same time. I thought it was a good day today. I thought I played very well and so did Paula. She played excellent. It took 19 holes to separate us. Fortunately, this time, it was my turn and I'm going to cherish this moment."

And Paula Creamer added: "It's very disappointing. But at the same time, I'm going against one of the best players in the world ever to play golf. There's a lot to learn from that."
