Svetlana Kuznetsova beats Amelie Mauresmo in Miami Nasdaq-100 Open
Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova claimed a stunning victory over Amelie Mauresmo and reached the final of the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami.
Svetlana Kuznetsova seeded 12, thrashed her doubles partner, allowing the number one seed just five games in an impressive 6-1 6-4 win.
Svetlana Kuznetsova will now place against fellow Russian Maria Sharapova in Saturday's final.
Maria Sharapova advanced after France's Tatiana Golovin withdrew due to an ankle injury in the third set with the Russian player in the lead by 6-3 6-7 4-3.
Tatiana Golovin went 2-1 ahead in the third set but she twisted her ankle and, after having it taped, decided she could not go on with the game.
Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo wasn't on good form from the outset and dropped the opening set inside 26 minutes, however, she picked up a bit in the second, but then missed a crucial forehand at 3-3 and this was to be her only break of the set.
The victory was the fourth successive win over a seeded rival for Svetlana Kuznetsova, who will return to the world's top 10 if she is triumphant on Saturday.
"Dubai gave me a lot of confidence," said Svetlana Kuznetsova, who is now trailing Amelie Mauresmo 4-2 in head-to-head contests.
