Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal not fit for Wimbledon
Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has made his decision and announced that he will not be defending his Wimbledon men's singles title because he is still not fit enough due to a knee injury.
Nadal had tried out his fitness in exhibition games on Thursday and Friday, however, he found that he has not sufficiently recovered from the tendinitis he is suffering from.
Nadal had also been found to have a small amount of fluid on his knees.
Although he is world number one at present, Nadal is the first tennis champion not to defend his Wimbledon crown since Goran Ivanisevic was also unable to appear in 2002.
However, 23-year-old Nadal maintains that the illness should not be a threat to his future career.
Nadal had been drawn to face Arnaud Clement on Monday and in his absence Roger Federer will kick things off on Centre Court by playing against Yen-Hsun Lu.
