Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal condemns ATP chiefs
Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has criticised the sport's chiefs, who he maintains are ruining the crowded European tennis calendar.
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has made several alterations to the calendar this year to allow for the Olympic Games in August.
However, this means that the clay-court tennis season has become especially crammed full of dates before this month's French Open.
Rafael Nadal is at present in Barcelona where he will be facing compatriot Feliciano Lopez on Thursday.
However, although he won the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday with tennis contests in Rome and Hamburg to come over the next two weeks, Nadal claims he knows he will not be able to maintain his best performance with having to work within the new ATP calendar.
"These people are destroying Europe and Europe used to be the foundation of the tour. I think it's completely impossible to play at one's best level for all four tournaments - Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome and Hamburg," Rafael Nadal said.
