Serena Williams returns to tennis in Cincinnati
Former world number one tennis star Serena Williams will be making her comeback to the sport in Cincinnati on Tuesday after six months away from the court.
Serena Williams, 24, has not played since the Australian Open in January due to an injured knee and her world ranking has fallen to 140.
Serena Williams has been given a tough draw for her return and will face second seed Anastasia Myskina at the Western & Southern Open on Tuesday evening.
"I'm excited, I'm really excited just to be playing, period," said Serena Williams.
Serena Williams has played only four matches in the last nine months and her commitment to tennis has been questioned by, among others, former stars Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova.
However, Serena Williams defended her time away: "I worked out every day. My knee needed that rest and, after it got it, I started feeling really good about it.
"There are a lot of things I could be doing but never did, because I was so focused on tennis."
Serena Williams is convinced she can get back among the world's best tennis players.
