Serena Williams loses world number one spot in tennis
Whilst her sister Venus has been celebrating her victory against Dinara Safina, Serena Williams's career has faced problems. An injured ankle forced her to withdraw from the Kremlin Cup and she is about to lose her world number one ranking.
The new number one spot will be going to Jelena Jankovic when the new rankings are released on Monday by the WTA.
27-year-old Williams admitted on Friday that her ankle had been troubling her ever since the US Open and it has become obvious to her that she needs to recover before playing again.
Elena Dementieva beat Williams in the final of the same event last year, and the American tennis star is very disappointed that she has been forced to have to pull out. Williams says she intends getting the world number one title back though.
Russia's world number six Maria Sharapova has a shoulder injury and will also miss out on taking part.
Williams had also recently been defeated in the second round of the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart, when she was beaten by Chinese player Li Na 0-6 6-1 6-4.
