Sania Mirza stops playing tennis in India

mirza Controversial Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has announced that she is not going to take part in further tournaments in her homeland to avoid any further trouble, and thus will miss next month's WTA Bangalore Open.

Sania Mirza, 21, has been the target of complaints over her dress sense and for disrespecting India's national flag, although she maintains her innocence.

Sania Mirza said: "Every time I have played in India there has been some kind of problem. At this moment, I have been advised by my manager not to play."

And Sania Mirza also added that she had felt like quitting tennis following accusations that she had disrespected India's flag during the Hopman Cup in Australia in January.

This was when Sania Mirza had been shown sitting with her feet on a table alongside an Indian flag.

A private citizen had filed a complaint under the Prevention of Insult to the National Honour Act and Sania Mirza explained: "It is not easy to be dealing with stuff like that. I felt great lows in the last few weeks."
