Russian tennis stars
Nadia Petrova and Dmitry Tursunov defeated the USA in the mixed doubles to claim a 2-1 win in their Hopman Cup tie in Perth, Australia.
Nadia Petrova and Dmitry Tursunov worked as a team against Ashley Harkleroad and Mardy Fish 6-3 7-5, and earlier still, Russia took a 1-0 lead after Petrova claimed a 6-3 6-0 win against Harkleroad.
However, Mardy Fish then beat Dmitry Tursunov 6-1 6-4 in the men's singles to level the match before Russia's mixed doubles triumph made sure of their chance of making the final.
Nadia Petrova was thrilled to have made a successful comeback after being beaten by Alicia Molik in Russia's 2-1 defeat by Australia.
"It's so good to be out here competing, it's completely different to practising and I wanted to start the new year on a good note," Nadia Petrova said.
"My serve has been much more consistent today, not too many double faults.
"I felt more confident to try and take the game, put her under pressure in the rallies and force mistakes," Nadia Petrova added.
