Russian tennis star Nikolay Davydenko out of Estoril Open
Russian tennis star and top seed Nikolay Davydenko was defeated in the Estoril Open in the first round by French player Olivier Patience.
Nikolay Davydenko was beaten 7-5 6-1 but he admitted he was to blame for his poor performance: "It's my fault because I didn't train enough."
Nikolay Davydenko who was born in Severodonezk, Ukraine, and who is currently the number one ranked Russian male tennis player simply wasn't at his best and it went against him.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Spanish player Tommy Robredo beat his compatriot Albert Montanes 6-4 6-3 and went through to the second round.
Nikolay Davydenko, who was the winner of the Estoril Open title in 2003 and who came runner-up last year, also had to withdraw from last week's event in Barcelona due to an injured wrist, but he said that problem had not caused any trouble in his defeat by Olivier Patience.
Nikolay Davydenko said: "I didn't have problems hitting my shots."
