Russian tennis star Nikolay Davydenko in betting probe
ATP officials will question Russian tennis star Nikolay Davydenko over the gambling scandal that erupted in relation to his recent defeat by Martin Vassallo Arguello.
Nikolay Davydenko, 26, pulled out from the match in Poland earlier this month when he was losing 2-6 6-3 2-1 due to injury, however, the online betting exchange Betfair reported irregular gambling patterns to tennis's governing body.
About £3.4m had been bet on his second-round match against Marin Vassallo Arguello, which was 10 times the usual amount for such a match, and Betfair refused to pay out on the match.
Despite his denial of any involvement in betting, ATP investigators will question Nikolay Davydenko after the China Open in September.
Nikolay Davydenko said: "I've never gambled in my life and I don't know any guys who do."
And Nikolay Davydenko's agent Eckhard Oehms maintained that his client was innocent of any involvement in the alleged betting.
