Russia beat America at Davis Cup tennis
Russia were in the lead at the Davis Cup semi-final against America and won both singles matches on the opening day of the tournament in Moscow.
Marat Safin swept aside US Open finalist Andy Roddick 6-4 6-3 7-6 and then Mikhail Youzhny made it 2-0 to Russia by defeating James Blake 7-5 1-6 6-1 7-5.
Mikhail Youzhny, 24, who was beaten by Andy Roddick in the US Open semi-finals earlier this month, fought back from 3-0 down in the opening set to beat James Blake.
"It's well known that Blake is a good starter," said Mikhail Youzhny, "I was ready for it but still managed to win the opening set.
"After losing the second, I found my normal game again and experienced few problems up to the end," Mikhail Youzhny added.
Saturday's doubles will be featuring Mikhail Youzhny and Dmitry Tursunov competing against American doubles specialists Mike and Bob Bryan.
