Roger Federer beaten by Andy Murray in Dubai

roger World number one tennis star Roger Federer has been defeated by Andy Murray at the Dubai Championship.

Scotland's Andy Murray, 20, beat Switzerland's 26-year-old Roger Federer 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 in an impressive performance.

Andy Murray, who is the British number one, has now made his second straight win against Roger Federer having beaten him in Cincinnati in August 2006 as well.

Whilst it was Andy Murray's second win it was also a consecutive second for Roger Federer, but for him it was a loss not a victory - the last time he played was the semi-final Australian Open when he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in January.

In fact, Roger Federer hadn't been defeated in a first round match since he lost to Dominik Hrbaty in Cincinnati in August 2004.

Roger Federer said after the match that it was a tough game fro him and Andy Murray and he explained: "One of the big guys had to go out. It's difficult but it could have been worse. It wasn't a bad match but that's the only positive I can take."
