Nadia Petrova gets through to Thailand Open

Top-seeded Russian tennis player Nadia Petrova got closer to her first WTA title, passing Antonella Serra Zanetti of Italy 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the 33 C heat to reach the Thailand Open final.

Nadia Petrova will play for the championship on Sunday competing against second-seeded Nicole Vaidisova.

Nadia Petrova will be competing in her fourth career final. Already this year she got through to the final in Berlin and then lost to the Belgian Justine Henin Hardenne.

Nadia Petrova and Serra Zanetti were allowed a 10-minute break before the third set because of the extreme heat. The final set turned in Nadia Petrova's favour in the fifth game, and she finished with two aces.

"It was one of the toughest matches here because it was so hot and I couldn't concentrate in the first set," Nadia Petrova said. "In the second set, I tried to stay longer in the rallies and finished off points when I had the chance.

"In the third set I was strong in the return and served well."
