Nadia Petrova defeated in J&S Cup but Venus Williams wins
Fifth seeded Russian tennis star Nadia Petrova was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Italian Mara Santangelo in the second round of the J&S Cup on Wednesday, but Venus Williams got through her first-round match successfully, beating Dutch player Michaella Krajicek 6-4 6-3.
Earlier on Nadia Petrova had struggled past a Polish junior player in her opening round.
Nadia Petrova couldn't hide her frustration and threw her racquet to the ground when she dropped 10 out of 11 points in the first set.
Venus Williams was glad the weather conditions had improved after the cold and snow, and were much better in Warsaw and she commented: "I was just glad it was a lot warmer,
"On Tuesday, I was prepared to play in the snow, so this was definitely an upgrade."
Venus Williams will now face seventh seed Elena Dementieva.
