Martina Hingis challenges cocaine result of doping test
Former world number one tennis star Martina Hingis is going to challenge her positive result for cocaine in a doping test at Wimbledon, her manager Mario Widmer has revealed.
Martina Hingis said she was retiring from sport after announcing she had the failed drugs test on 1 November, and she said at the time that she would not be challenging it, however, her manager says she has changed her mind and he explained: "She will be fighting this, of course. You can be clear about that. The matter is currently with her lawyers."
Martina Hingis had told how she had returned a positive result for cocaine from a routine urine sample taken after Laura Granville had defeated her in the third round of the Championships.
But Martina Hingis maintained that she was "100% innocent" and that this was supported by a negative result on a hair test, which would determine whether or not someone has used the drug cocaine.
