Mark Philippoussis' tennis career is in jeopardy
Unlucky tennis star Mark Philippoussis will be having surgery this week on a career-threatening knee injury he sustained at the Hopman Cup.
Mark Philippoussis, 30, has been withdrawn from the Australian Open after he tore the lateral meniscus in his right knee.
Mark Philippoussis said he would "definitely" return to the sport, although he has had to admit "they won't know the extent of the tear until they get in there".
However, Hopman Cup medical doctor Hamish Osborne warned; "could be four weeks, it could be never".
This serious knee injury is the latest in a series of problems and bad luck that Mark Philippoussis has had to endure in the last few years.
Although Mark Philippoussis has had three operations on his other knee, it is the first time he has had surgery to his right one.
Mark Philippoussis said: "It is disappointing, but what can you do? This is another minor setback and something I am going to deal with.
"It is the only thing I can do, it is the only thing I want to do, it's as simple as that."
