Mario Ancic too good for James Blake
Seventh seeded Mario Ancic saw off in-form American James Blake on the
opening day of the Lyon Grand Prix. The Croatian player beat James
Blake, who won his first European title in Stockholm earlier this
month, 6-2 7-6 (7-5).
So Mario Ancic has certainly come a long way since the time he once
declared his ambition as follows: "I would like to improve and enjoy my
tennis. I am not thinking about ranking right now"
And third seed Gaston Gaudio of Argentina got a much-needed win after
five straight defeats, seeing off Frenchman Arnaud Clement 6-3 4-6 6-3.
Rising star Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Montenegro beat Brazilian Ricardo Mello 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.
Top seed Andy Roddick opens his campaign against French wildcard Thierry Ascione on Tuesday.
