Maria Sharapova beaten by fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva

sharapovaAlla Kudryavtseva has made a surprise victory at Wimbledon by beating her fellow Russian Maria Sharapova in the second round.

21-year-old Sharapova simply wasn't playing well at all on Court One, and she lost 2-6 4-6 , which was her worst performance at this prestigious tennis event ever.

Her compatriot Kudryavtseva, 20, who is ranked 154th in the world, has never been the winner of a WTA tournament and has made it into the third round at Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

Maria Sharapova is very disappointed but a triumphant Alla Kudryavtseva will next face China's Peng Shuai for a chance at a place in the last 16.

Kudryavtseva said: "I did think about winning, not just going and playing. For sure beating her is a big deal for me. The best day of my tennis life? Yes."

Kudryavtseva also commented that Sharapova's new Wimbledon tuxedo-style top and shorts helped inspire her to win.
