Maria Sharapova beaten by Victoria Azarenka in Moscow
Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova's first game since she made a comeback after recovering from a shoulder injury has seen her being defeated by Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka.
Maria Sharapova lost in straight sets 7-6 (11-9) 6-2 to Victoria Azarenka in round two of the Kremlin Cup, which took place in Moscow.
It was Maria Sharapova's first match in almost six weeks and marked her second successive defeat by an 18-year-old tennis player after she had also been beaten in the third round of the US Open in September by Polish star Agnieszka Radwanska.
Maria Sharapova gave a very poor performance in comparison with her usual form and made 45 unforced errors and served seven double faults in the match against Victoria Azarenka.
Playing in Moscow has ended in disappointment for Maria Sharapova last year too when she had to withdraw due to a foot injury.
