Maria Sharapova battles to beat Venus Williams in Miami
Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova battled her way back from being a set down to finally defeat Venus Williams 2-6 6-2 7-5 at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
The game was strewn with errors throughout and Maria Sharapova said that the blustery conditions had gone against her performance, even though she beat Venus Williams.
Venus Williams made 50 unforced errors and served up 12 double faults, whilst Maria Sharapova made a total of 35 unforced errors.
Maria Sharapova explained her feelings about it: "You know you're not going to play your best tennis,"
And Maria Sharapova added: "You definitely can't get frustrated. But I'm a fighter and a big competitor.
That's why I play the sport. I enjoy the battle of it, and a lot of my matches, it depends on who fights more in the end."
Maria Sharapova could now go forward to meet Serena Williams in the fourth round of the tournament.
