Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams through to round 3
Tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams have both claimed victories that have qualified them to progress through to the third round of the French Open.
Maria Sharapova, 20, took just over an hour to defeat her opponent American player Jill Craybas 6-2 6-1 and now goes on to face Russian compatriot Alla Kudryavtseva.
Serena Williams, the Australian Open champion, took a while longer to win her game and although she breezed through the first set she then had to get over being 0-3 down in the second. However, Serena Williams fought back to win 6-0 7-6 (7-3).
Serena Williams said: "I honestly did not feel my game at all. Even in the first set, I felt like I was not playing well.
"I was struggling to get rhythm - maybe I had too many days off. But I was able to come back and I found more rhythm towards the end."
Maria Sharapova said she still has problems with the shoulder injury, which kept her away from the action for almost two months and she admitted: "The pain is still there at times."
