Lindsay Davenport withdraws from Wimbledon due to back injury

lindsaydavenport Former world number one Lindsay Davenport has had to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon Championships due to an injured back.

Lindsay Davenport, 29, the runner-up to Venus Williams in last season's women's singles final, had also missed out on the French Open earlier in June.

German tennis star Sandra Kloesel has replaced Lindsay Davenport, who won the Wimbledon title in 1999.

Lindsay Davenport, who was also a Wimbledon finalist in 2000, has been troubled by a lower back strain since she was beaten by compatriot Venus Williams last year in the longest-ever women's final, which Williams won 4-6 7-6 9-7.

Venus Williams' sister Serena Williams also pulled out from Wimbledon last month due to a continuing knee problem.

Serena Williams won in 2002 and 2003 but has suffered health problems over the last year.
