Karol Beck tests positive say Slovak Tennis Foundation
Tennis player Karol Beck has tested positive for a prohibited substance, according to the Slovak Tennis Federation (SLT).
General secretary of the association, Igor Moska said the positive test
came after the Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina last December,
but he didn't say what the substance was.
The International Tennis Federation has made no comment on the reports, which could lead to a two-year ban.
Igor Moska said he believed Karol Beck had consumed the substance without knowing what it was.
"He was heard in front of an anti-doping committee in London eight days
ago where he was given the chance to explain events," he said.
"I met Karol Beck a couple of days ago and he told me again he never
used any doping. He has the trust of the Slovakian Tennis Association
and mine as well because of that."
In December at the time of the Davis Cup final between Slovakia and
Croatia, Karol Beck had strongly denied that he failed a drugs test
after rumours were circulating that he had given a positive test at an
earlier Cup match against Argentina.
Slovakian captain Miroslav Mecir took Karol Beck out of the contest and
said the player was suffering from a knee injury that still hadn't
healed.
Karol Beck, who hasn't played this year, was ranked 57 at the time of
the Davis Cup final, which Slovakia lost 3-2, and is now ranked at 76.
