James Blake beats Lleyton Hewitt in Tennis Channel Open
James Blake surprised his opponent top seed Lleyton Hewitt by winning the Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas on Sunday.
James Blake, fifth seed, won 7-5 2-6 6-3 to gain his first victory over Lleyton Hewitt in seven tries at achieving this goal.
"I'm happy to finally get a win against one of the best players of all
time," said James Blake after achieving his fifth career title.
James Blake is now thought to be about to rise to a career-high 14th in the world when the rankings are released on Monday.
James Blake had only dropped his serve once in 36 games to enter the
final but was broken four times by Lleyton Hewitt, including three
times in succession to close the second set.
James Blake came back in fighting spirit and hit 20 winners in the
third set and paying tribute to Lleyton Hewitt after the match.
"He made me earn it today," said James Blake. "He's gotten me in so many close matches and beaten me up so many times."
Lleyton Hewitt has not claimed a title himself for over a year but he was full of praise for James Blake.
