Italian tennis star Francesca Schiavone beats Justine Henin
Italian tennis star Francesca Schiavone has defeated Belgian Justine Henin at the Dubai Open in the quarter-finals and ended her 17-match of unbeaten success.
Justine Henin had won the title the last four times she had played in Dubai but this time her performance was all over the place with good and not so good playing and she lost 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4).
Justine Henin, who had won all the last seven games against Francesca Schiavone that she had played, admitted: "She was better, simple as that."
But it wasn't always certain that Francesa Schiavone would win and she twice failed to serve out the match in the second set and wasted a match point at 5-4. However, Justine Henin missed out on taking advantage here and played a disappointing tiebreak which Francesca Schiavone won 7-4.
Francesca Schiavone said proudly: "To beat Justine you have to play very good, at a high level, and I did today. I think for me it is my best win."
Francesca Schiavone now goes forward to face Ana Ivanovic or Elena Dementieva in the semi-finals.
