Israeli tennis star Shahar Pe'er wins at Memphis International
Top-seeded Israeli tennis star Shahar Pe'er put on an impressive display at the Memphis International quarter-finals with a 6-0 6-0 victory against Venezuelan player Milagros Sequera.
Born in Jerusalem, and turning professional in 2004, world number 17 Shahar Pe'er was top seed in a WTA Tour event for the first time.
Commenting on her success Shahar Pe'er, 19, said: "I served much better," and Shahar Pe'er added: "I was aggressive. She likes to control the point and I didn't let her."
And Shahar Pe'er was happy to be a top seed for the first time and didn't feel that she was under any pressure because of it:
"It just means I am playing well. It doesn't give me anything. If I win at the end of the week, then OK, but it doesn't matter for me."
Shahar Pe'er is aware of what hse has been doing to improve her performance and explained: "I had a very good off-season, one of my hardest ever. I did a little more weights and improved my strength. I always moved well but I think I am now much stronger."
Shahar Pe'er is hoping to get back to her early-season form when she climbed all the way to number 15 at the end of January and judging by her latest victory she is well on the way.
