Indian tennis star Sania Mirza beats Anne Keothavong
Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has defeated Anne Keothavong in the Aegon Classic in Birmingham with a 6-1 7-6 (7-5) score.
Mirza easily won against the UK's number one in the first set.
Mirza then went on to play well in the second set and kept her focus and control as the two tennis stars battled it out in the tie-break.
Mirza, who is unseeded, has dropped down the world tennis rankings to 98th position, which a steep slump after she reached an all-time high of 27th place two years back.
Mirza, who in the past has created controversy in the Indian press, could now go forward to play against the UK's Elena Baltacha in the third round.
Elsewhere, number three seed Aleksandra Wozniak claimed a 6-4 6-4 win against Belarussian player Olga Govortsova, and Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele was victorious against sixth seed Ekaterina Makarova.
