German tennis star Tommy Haas gets third ATP title by beating Russian Dmitry Tursonov
German tennis star Tommy Haas gained his third ATP title of the season with a 4-6 7-5 6-3 victory against Russian Dmitry Tursunov in the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles.
Tommy Haas, 28, fought his way back from a set down to win the contest for the second time in three years.
Dmitry Tursunov, 23, made a good performance in his first ATP final and dominated the the first set 6-4 but Tommy Haas managed to level the match and staying in the lead for the third set to claim his 10th career Tour win.
Tommy Haas, who also won the hardcourt tournaments at Delray Beach and Memphis this season before he injured his wrist in April, fired down 12 aces to the Russian's 10 and he was happy to have done better than compatriots Boris Becker and Michael Stich when he won two titles in Los Angeles.
"Having my name up there with Becker and Stich is awesome," Tommy Haas said. "I don't know how many times Boris played here but my winning more times than him is great."
