German tennis star Tommy Haas beats Novak Djokovic
German tennis star Tommy Haas has defeated Novak Djokovic with a 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 victory at the Halle event on the grass tennis courts.
31-year-old Haas won for the first time ever against Djokovic, who is ranked as world number four and was number one favourite for Halle, following Roger Federer's withdrawal.
Haas, ranked 41 in the world, got through the first set with no problems and won it in under half an hour, but he then went on to lose the second set. After that he broke Djokovic twice and easily won the deciding game.
The Halle tournament was Haas's first ATP event success since he was victorious in Memphis back in 2007 and it showed that he has recovered fully from last year's shoulder injury.
Haas said afterwards what a wonderful week in tennis he has had.
