German tennis star Tommy Haas beats Nikolay Davydenko
German tennis star Tommy Haas has made it into the Australian Open semi-finals with a five-set victory against number one ranked Russian player Nikolay Davydenko.
Hamburg-born Tommy Haas, seeded 12th, and currently the highest ranked German player, defeated Nikolay Davydenko 6-3 2-6 1-6 6-1 7-5 in three hours 19 minutes.
"That's one of my best wins, being down a break in the fifth," said a proud Tommy Haas and he added: "I don't know how I did it, I was just hanging tough. I'm so happy right now."
Nikolay Davydenko, who although born in Russia currently lives in Monte Carlo, Monaco, looked all set for a win but his opponent Tommy Haas emerged as the victorious player.
In game 10 Nikolay Davydenko had a match point on Tommy Haas's serve, however, he lost out burying a forehand into the net, and Tommy Haas then put on a brilliant performance and beat the Russian player.
Tommy Haas will next be playing second seed Rafael Nadal or 10th seed Fernando Gonzalez in the semis at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
