Former tennis star Martina Hingis gets 2-year drugs ban
Former tennis star Martina Hingis has received a two-year ban after being found guilty of a drugs offence.
Martina Hingis, 27, tested positive for cocaine when she was taking part at Wimbledon last year.
A statement by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said: "Following a two-day hearing in December 2007, an independent anti-doping tribunal found that a sample provided by Ms Hingis on 29 June 2007 at the Wimbledon Championships had tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine."
The ITF has turned down Martina Hingis's appeal and given her a ban that begins on 1 October 2007.
Martina Hingis, who has already retired from tennis, has also had to lose her ranking points and prize money from Wimbledon and any tournaments after it.
Martina Hingis, who tested positive from a routine urine sample taken after Laura Granville beat her, had maintained that she was "100% innocent".
Martina Hingis had said her defence was supported by a negative result on a hair test, which shows whether or not someone has used the drug cocaine.
