Fernando Gonzalez beaten by Marin Cilic

gonzalez Chilean tennis star Fernando Gonzalez has been defeated at the Australian Open by Croatia's Marin Cilic in their third-round clash.

Because of rain, Fernando Gonzalez, who was seed number seven and last year's runner-up, played against Marin Cilic under the roof of the Rod Laver Arena, but he was simply outplayed by the brilliant Marin Cilic.

Marin Cilic, 19, stayed in command of the game to claim the best victory of his career with an impressive score of 6-2 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-1.

Marin Cilic, who had never won a Grand Slam match before this was over the moon with his victory and he said proudly:"It was probably the best match of my life."

Marin Cilic added: "It was fortunate we were playing indoors, it helped me with my serve without the wind."

Fernando Gonzalez blamed illness and injury for his poor display and he said: "I wasn't at 100 percent, but I was able to play."
