Czech tennis star Tomas Berdych beats Rafael Nadal
Czech tennis star Tomas Berdych made a surprising straight-sets win over world number two Rafael Nadal and qualified for the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters.
Tomas Berdych, 21, silenced the crowd with a 6-3 7-6 triumph for his third consecutive win over the Spanish player.
Tomas Berdych will now face Chile's Fernando Gonzalez in the last four after the 10th seed defeated Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic 7-5 5-7 7-5.
Tomas Berdych gave an impressive performance by holding his serve confidently and then taking advantage of his opportunities to break Rafael Nadal.
The 10,000 strong crowd were backing Rafael Nadal in the second set, but Tomas Berdych was undeterred and kept up the pressure to win through after a nail-biting tie-break.
"More important than the victory was the fact that I showed I can beat him at home in Spain," said a triumphant Tomas Berdych.
