Czech tennis star Jiri Novak beats Robin Vik
Czech tennis star Jiri Novak defeated Robin Vik 4-6 6-4 6-4 and set up a second-round clash with Andy Murray at the Japan Open.
Jiri Novak, 31, came back from a slow start against his compatriot in Tokyo to advance in an event he had won in 2004.
Andy Murray is fourth seed and is due to face world number one Roger Federer in the semi-finals, whilst Tim Henman, who defeated him in the Thailand Open first round last week, is seeded 10th. All top 16 seeds had first-round byes.
Roger Federer and the other top seeds are not likely to play until Wednesday after rain ruined several qualifying matches at the weekend.
Further bad weather is forecast during the week and only the Tokyo venue's centre court has a retractable roof.
Japanese player Takao Suzuki won on his comeback from a serious shoulder injury by defeating German tennis star Simon Greul 6-2 6-2.
