Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis beats Croatian Mario Ancic
Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis claimed his first career title when he beat Croatian Mario Ancic 6-4 6-0 in the China Open final.
Marcos Baghdatis upped the pace in the second set to finish Mario Ancic's fine comeback after his recovery from injury and it was a first win over Ancic for Baghdatis, who reached this year's Australian Open final and Wimbledon semi-finals.
"It's my first title, it's very, very cool," Marcos Baghdatis said. "I played a great match today. It's amazing I'm very happy."
"I've been playing better with each match this week.
"I knew Mario would be a tough opponent, but I kept my level high. He's a great player and I had to fight.
"It's good to get a win from him after losing three times. I was able to find the winning solution."
And Mario Ancic said: "I think Marcos played really, really well," and he added, "In the second set I think you could see that this week had taken a lot out of me.
"It was really tough physically and mentally and by the end I was really dead."
