Croatian tennis star Mario Ancic wins at China Open
Croatian tennis star Mario Ancic made his return to action after two months away with a 6-3 3-6 6-3 victory over Feliciano Lopez in the opening round of the China Open.
Mario Ancic, 22, has been off the court since Wimbledon after injuring his knee when he slipped whilst jumping into the sea from a yacht.
"I am really happy to be back on the court, behind me is seven weeks of hard rehab and a lot of work," Mario Ancic said.
Elsewhere, top seed Ivan Ljubicic beat Japan's Go Soeda 6-4 6-2, and seventh seed Ivo Karlovic made it three Croat winners in the second round with a 6-2 7-6 (7-2) win over Mikhail Ledovskikh of Russia.
Mario Ancic took the opening set easily after making the most of frequent errors by Feliciano Lopez.
The Spanish player did respond by taking the second set when Mario Ancic put a forehand wide but Ancic broke Lopez in the second game of the third and had to save three break points in the next before winning the match.
"I'm hitting the ball well but it's going to be many, many matches to get back to my best," said Mario Ancic.
