Chilean tennis star Fernando Gonzalez wins in Chile
Chilean tennis star Fernando Gonzalez continued his recent run of success at the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar in his homeland.
Nicknamed after the place he lives in Chile, "The La Reina Bomber" Fernando Gonzalez, 26, is famous for having one of the hardest hitting forehands in tennis and is also known as Mano de Piedra ("Hand of Stone"), and his talents have been have been much needed because his latest win wasn't an easy one it is reported.
Fernando Gonzalez explained: "I wait the entire year to play here in front of my crowd but that first match wasn't easy," and he went on to add:
"It's a bit difficult to be playing on clay again. I'm not used to it. I haven't played on clay since Roland Garros (last June)."
Nevertheless, Australian runner-up Fernando Gonzalez defeated Thiago Alves 6-2 6-2 in his opening round-robin match in front of his home crowd.
Going for his third Vina Del Mar title, Fernando Gonzalez only arrived in Chile on Monday after being beaten by Roger Federer in Melbourne on Sunday.
