British tennis star Jamie Baker recovers from serious disease
British tennis star Jamie Baker is reported to be making his recovery from a life-threatening virus he caught whilst at a training camp in America.
Jamie Baker, 21, who is currently the number two for the UK, had to spend three days in intensive care after he was diagnosed with a blood disorder that can cause the danger of internal and external bleeding, and now although he is said to have fully recovered he is very unlikely to be well enough for Wimbledon.
British number one, Andy Murray commented on the news and said: "He loves tennis enough to get himself back fit and healthy," whilst his tennis-playing brother Jamie added: "I think he feels quite fortunate really to still be alive. It seems weird to be saying those sort of things. I mean, he's an athlete. He's healthy. He takes care of himself and, bang, he could have died."
The time away from sport will come as a blow to the career of Jamie Baker, who is currently ranked at 241 in the world ratings and stands to fall lower.
