Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters defeated in Miami
Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters was delivered an embarrassing defeat
at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami by world number 54 Jill Craybas in the
second round.
Making her first return to action in more than a month, second seed Kim Clijsters suffered a 7-5 3-6 7-5 loss.
Elsewhere in other matches, fourth seeded Russian player Maria
Sharapova had little trouble seeing off Na Li 6-2 6-4 from China.
And Maria Sharapova's compatriot player, sixth seed Elena Dementieva, was a 6-3 6-1 winner over Anna Tatishvili from Georgia.
Kim Clijsters, 22, was nowhere near the standard of playing
she is known for and she double-faulted 11 times and committed 78
unforced errors against Jill Craybas, who claimed her best result since
she beat Serena Williams at Wimbledon 2005.
The match was Kim Clijsters' first tournament appearance since losing
the final in Antwerp to Amelie Mauresmo on 19 February after suffering
ankle injury problems again.
"I need my matches," said Kim Clijsters. "You don't get (form) back one-two-three by practising well.
"You don't get it back straightaway. Matches are what I'm definitely lacking.
"It's frustrating at times because you feel like you can't really play your best tennis," Kim Clijsters added.
