Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters beats Vera Zvonareva at Bank of the West Classic

kimclijsters Top seeded Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters beat Russian challenger Vera Zvonareva and reached the last four of the Bank of the West Classic in California.

Kim Clijsters won 6-2 3-6 6-1 and will now be facing third seed Nicole Vaidisova in the semi-finals.

Czech tennis player Nicole Vaidisova, 17, thrashed Australian Samantha Stosur 6-4 6-2.

The other semi-final to be played will be between left-handed Patty Schnyder and Tatiana Golovin of France who upset fourth seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-4 7-6.

Second seed Patty Schnyder from Switzerland beat American veteran tennis star Jill Craybas 6-4 7-5.

Champion three times Kim Clijsters easily won the first set against Vera Zvonareva but then the Russian player hit back in the second.

However, Vera Zvonareva, who had won last week's WTA tournament in Cincinnati, lost track of the game in the decider, which allowed Kim Clijsters to break twice in a row and to be the winner.
