Belgian tennis star Justine Henin beaten by Dinara Safina
Russian tennis player Dinara Safina beat Belgian star Justine Henin at the German Open on Thursday.
The world number one from Belgium was playing only her second match after a month away from the action due to an injured knee, but her opponent thrashed her with a 5-7 6-3 6-1 score.
This was the first time Justine Henin had been defeated on clay since Svetlana Kuznetsova also beat her in the Berlin semi-finals in 2007.
As a four-times French Open winner, Henin was hoping to start her campaign this season on her favourite surface before she focuses on defending her Roland Garros title later in May.
However, even though Henin had beaten Dinara Safina in each of the last five occasions they had met, this time she was struggling badly throughout the game, and her defeat means she will not get the chance to take on Serena Williams who defeated Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3 6-1.
After the game Justine Henin sadly admitted: "It was pretty difficult out there and very frustrating, I am very disappointed."
