Belgian Kim Clijsters has doubts about the Australian Open
Belgium's Kim Clijsters is worried she may not be able to take part in
the forthcoming Australian Open and has already had to pull out of the
Sydney International quarterfinals.
Kim Clijsters, 22, was due to play Italian Francesca Schiavone in the
last eight but pulled out with a hip problem just before the match was
due to start.
The world number two player will have scans on Thursday before making a
decision as to whether to take part in next week's Australian Open.
"It's terrible and it is not good," said Kim Clijsters.
"I could hardly walk up the stairs. It feels like it's really deep
inside. I don't know what the injury is. I'll need to have some tests,"
Kim Clijsters added.
Kim Clijsters complained about pain when she began her warm-up
serves and admitted that she had minor back pain after flying to
Australia from Hong Kong.
Kim Clijsters returned to action last year after missing most of 2004
with a career-threatening wrist injury and the star has suffered a host
of injuries since 2003.
Kim Clijsters has already announced that she will retire in 2007.
