Argentinean tennis star Guillermo Canas' drugs ban reviewed
Argentinean tennis star Guillermo Canas is about to have the 15-month ban he was given for a drugs offence reviewed.
Guillermo Canas, 29, had been given the suspension by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) for using a prohibited diuretic in 2005 but he returned to sport in September, and Guillermo Canas appealed to the Swiss Federal Tribunal over his case.
Last May, Guillermo Canas had had the original two-year suspension reduced on appeal when Cas agreed he had not knowingly taken a banned diuretic but had believed it was a medicine that was allowed.
Guillermo Canas had denied all along ever using the banned substance, knowing it to be prohibited.
The Cas panel that dealt with Guillermo Canas' case originally is hoped to be examining his case again in the next couple of months.
Matthieu Reeb, general secretary for Cas explained that: "We have received information from the Swiss Federal Tribunal that it has decided to annul the Cas award,
"We assume we will have to review the award in accordance with the directions provided by the Federal Tribunal.
"We could confirm the initial sanction, we could reduce it or declare that the athlete is not guilty of a doping offence."
