Andy Roddick splits with coach to work with brother John Roddick
Tennis star Andy Roddick has split with current coach Dean Goldfine to work with his older brother John.
This means that his brother will be the fourth coach in three years for
Andy Roddick, who lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open in
January.
After saying goodbye to long-time coach Tarik Benhabiles in 2003, Andy
Roddick worked with Brad Gilbert until December 2004, and then teamed
up with Dean Goldfine.
John Roddick's first job as coach will be to help his brother Andy at this weekend's Davis Cup.
Older than Andy by six years, John Roddick, 29, used to be an
All-American tennis player at the University of Georgia and he went on
to coach there so has plenty of past experience and knowledge of the
game and its rules. In fact, John Roddick runs a tennis academy in San
Antonio.
And former assistant coach with the US Davis Cup and Olympic teams,
Dean Goldfine managed to guide Andy Roddick to a second successive
Wimbledon final in 2005. However, all has not gone so well since then
and it remains to be seen how the new partnership of the two Roddick
brothers will work out.
